The article examines the relationship between Federico Zuccari and the academic circles of his time, with particular attention to academies of a literary character. The investigation begins with a comparison between Zuccari’s conception of the academy and the broader process of theorizing the academic institution as a place for the collective elaboration of knowledge and for cultural legitimation. The aim is to highlight which aspects of this debate were taken up by Zuccari and how they contributed to shaping the subsequent creation of the Accademia di San Luca. The study further focuses on the artist’s direct participation in certain literary academies, in particular the Insensati of Perugia and the Innominati of Parma. Zuccari’s involvement in these contexts is situated within a broader network of academic relationships, especially with figures gravitating around the Duchy of Milan, as is also attested by the paratexts of some of his works. Finally, the analysis seeks to offer new elements for understanding Zuccari’s role within academic circuits that were not exclusively artistic, bringing to light an intertwining of cultural relationships that contributed to the construction of his self-representation as an artist and intellectual engaged in the debates of his time.
L’articolo esamina il rapporto tra Federico Zuccari e gli ambienti accademici del suo tempo, con particolare attenzione alle accademie di carattere letterario. L’indagine prende avvio da un confronto tra la concezione zuccaresca dell’accademia e il più ampio processo di teorizzazione dell’istituzione accademica quale luogo di elaborazione collettiva del sapere e di legittimazione culturale. L’obiettivo è mettere in luce quali aspetti di questo dibattito furono recepiti da Zuccari e come essi contribuirono a orientare la successiva creazione dell’Accademia di San Luca. Lo studio si concentra inoltre sulla partecipazione diretta dell’artista ad alcune accademie letterarie, in particolare quella degli Insensati di Perugia e degli Innominati di Parma. Il coinvolgimento di Zuccari in questi contesti si colloca all’interno di una rete più ampia di relazioni accademiche, soprattutto con figure gravitanti attorno al Ducato di Milano, come testimoniano anche i paratesti di alcune sue opere. L’analisi intende infine offrire nuovi elementi per comprendere il ruolo di Zuccari all’interno di circuiti accademici non esclusivamente artistici, mettendo in luce un intreccio di relazioni culturali che contribuì alla costruzione della sua autorappresentazione come artista e intellettuale inserito nel dibattito del proprio tempo.
