Une image sacrée post-tridentine, au-delà de Federico Zuccari: La guérison du roi Abgar à la vue de la Sainte Face
The article offers a new interpretation of a drawing held at the Louvre Museum (Inv. 11625), long attributed to Federico Zuccari's circle and mistakenly identified as a scene depicting the healing of Godfrey of Bouillon linked to Tasso's Jerusalem Delivered. By accurately identifying the subject as the episode of the healing of King Abgar of Edessa through the vision of the Mandylion, the study places the drawing, attributable to an Italian artist active in the second half of the 16th century, in the context of the Counter-Reformation, particularly in the movement aimed at rediscovering the origins of Christianity and promoting devotional images.
L'articolo propone una nuova interpretazione di un disegno conservato al Museo del Louvre (Inv. 11625), a lungo attribuito alla cerchia di Federico Zuccari e erroneamente identificato come una scena della guarigione di Goffredo di Buglione legata alla Gerusalemme liberata del Tasso. Identificando con precisione il soggetto con l'episodio della guarigione del re Abgar di Edessa attraverso la visione del Mandylion, lo studio ricolloca il foglio, attribuibile a un artista italiano attivo nella seconda metà del XVI secolo, nel contesto della Controriforma, in particolare nel movimento volto a riscoprire le origini del cristianesimo e a promuovere le immagini di devozione.
L’article propose une nouvelle interprétation d’un dessin conservé au musée du Louvre (Inv. 11625), longtemps classé dans le cercle de Federico Zuccari et identifié à tort comme une scène de guérison de Godefroi de Bouillon liée à la Jérusalem délivrée de Tasse. En identifiant précisément le sujet à l’épisode de la guérison du roi Abgar d’Édesse par la vision du Mandylion, l’étude replace la feuille, attribuable à un artiste italien actif dans la seconde moitié du XVIe siècle, dans contexte de la Contre-Réforme, en particulier dans le mouvement visant à redécouvrir les origines du christianisme et à promouvoir les images de dévotion.
